St. Ambrose goes five to get win at Judson

For the sixth straight match, St. Ambrose dropped the opening set. But for the third time in the last four matches, the Bees rallied for victory.

Tuesday's 25-27, 25-14, 25-22, 19-25, 15-10 win at Judson moved SAU to 17-9 overall and 6-4 in the CCAC.

After letting the first set slip away, the Bees were dominant in the second and third. SAU put down 16 kills in each set in taking a 2-1 lead.

But St. Ambrose couldn't close out the match in four and opened the door for Judson.

The Eagles extended the match to a decisive fifth set, but kills from Jon Guch and Charlie Flynn helped the Bees to a 7-4 lead. Judson (7-16, 2-6 CCAC) fought back to get within 8-7.

Then St. Ambrose pulled away.

A Judson serving error was followed by an Anthony Anderson ace. Then Michael Bos put down a kill for an 11-7 lead.

After an Eagle point, Pedro Zang and Bos had back-to-back kills to extend the lead to 13-8. From there, kills from Bos and Kam Dixon ultimately closed out the five-set win.

In the final set, the Bees finished with 12 kills and no errors in 16 chances for a .750 hitting percentage.

It was part of a strong hitting night for SAU as the team collected 69 total kills to hit at a .333 clip.

Bos led all players with 22 kills. He had just two hitting errors to hit at a .690 mark.

Zang had 16 kills while Guch and Dixon each put down nine. Flynn added seven kills, Ian Cordes had four and Kainalu Ka'ahanui ended with two.

Anderson was credited with 38 assists and Felipe Prieto handed out 19. Ethan Karban (15) and Anderson (12) each reached double figures in digs. Anderson also had both of the team's aces in the win.

St. Ambrose will visit Calumet Thursday.
