St. Ambrose takes down Culver-Stockton in three
St. Ambrose hit .256 as a team to take down Culver-Stockton 25-23, 25-21, 25-19 Friday night in Canton, Mo. It was the Bees' third win over the Wildcats this season.
SAU had to rally to win the opening set.
Trailing 22-20, the Bees got kills from Michael Bos and Pedro Zang to pull even. Following a Wildcat timeout, Zander Larson was credited with a kill for a 23-22 lead. Then a CSC hitting error gave SAU two set points. Two points later, a Charlie Flynn kill wrapped up the set.
The second set was also tight.
Culver-Stockton (1-8) led 14-13 before St. Ambrose (7-3) went on a run. Kills from Flynn and Ian Cordes were followed by a Cole Rubio ace. A Wildcat hitting error wrapped up the four-point run that gave the Bees a 17-14 edge. SAU maintained the lead to grab a two-set advantage.
An early run gave St. Ambrose control in the third.
With Culver-Stockton nursing an early 3-1 lead, SAU ripped off five straight points. Larson and Jon Guch had kills and a pair of Bee blocks (by Larson-Flynn and Flynn-Guch) came during the spurt that put St. Ambrose in front 6-3.
The Bees gradually pulled away, extending the lead to as many as seven points, to close out the 3-0 victory.
It was a balanced attack.
Flynn posted a team-best eight kills. Kam Dixon had seven, Cordes put down six, and Bos and Zang finished with five apiece. Guch and Larson each had three kills.
Anthony Anderson and Felipe Prieto each registered 17 assists. Ethan Karban came up with 10 digs.
