Wainscott, Dacunda each net 22 in win at IU South Bend
Collin Wainscott and Ignacio Dacunda each scored 22 points to lead St. Ambrose to an 80-76 win at Indiana South Bend Saturday afternoon.
Wainscott and Dacunda each came up with 16 points as part of a big second half for the Bees.
Trailing 39-34 at the half, St. Ambrose (10-12, 7-7 CCAC) put up 46 points after the break to post its third straight victory.
Dacunda scored eight points in the first four minutes of the second half, including a three-point play that gave SAU a 48-46 lead. Wainscott then followed with the first of his four 3-pointers of the half to extend the lead to 51-46.
It was a lead the Bees held onto the rest of the way.
After Indiana South Bend (14-8, 9-5 CCAC) closed to within 55-54, Wainscott buried another three. Guillermo Narbona then drilled a triple to push the margin to 61-54.
Wainscott's third 3-pointer of the half gave St. Ambrose a double-digit lead at 68-58 with five minutes remaining.
A Titan three-point play was answered by a final Wainscott three. Kieran Farrell hit one from beyond the arc to extend the lead to 74-63 with less than four minutes left.
IU South Bend closed to within 76-70 but two Dacunda free throws and a dunk restored an 80-71 lead with a minute on the clock. That allowed the Bees to hang on as the Titans scored the final five points of the game.
Wainscott finished 6-of-10 from deep in scoring his 22 points. Dacunda put up 22 points to go along with five rebounds and seven assists.
Farrell was 3-of-4 from 3-point range to score nine points. Narbona also had nine while grabbing 15 rebounds.
Nolan Deitrich finished with seven points. Ryan Kenney added five points, Nikos Gerokostas scored four and Solomon Garrison added two.
SAU will return home to host St. Francis Wednesday.
