Balanced attack gets St. Ambrose past Holy Cross

Three Bees scored in double figures and five SAU reserves combined for 25 points off the bench to help St. Ambrose take down Holy Cross 84-74 Saturday afternoon inside Lee Lohman Arena.

The win came behind a big second half from the Bees.

Thanks to an Ignacio Dacunda three-point play in the closing seconds, SAU led 36-34 at the half.

The Bees promptly put together a 15-7 run over the first five minutes of the second half, capped by a Guillermo Narbona 3-pointer, to push the lead to double figures at 51-41.

Holy Cross (6-10, 1-7 CCAC) closed to within three points at 62-59 with just under eight minutes remaining.

But St. Ambrose (6-10, 3-5 CCAC) responded.

Narbona drew a foul and made two free throws and Dacunda followed with a three to restore a 67-59 advantage.

It was at least a two-possession game the rest of the way.

The Bees put up 48 points in the second half. The team shot nearly 59 percent from the floor and made 6-of-11 3-point attempts over the game's final 20 minutes to close out the victory.

Narbona led all scorers with 24 points. He added four rebounds, three assists and a pair of steals in the win.

Collin Wainscott, who was 4-of-6 from beyond the arc, dropped in 19 points while collecting four assists and three steals.

Dacunda also reached double digits, scoring 16 points. He also posted five boards and six assists.

Nolan Deitrich knocked down three 3-pointers in leading the bench unit with nine points. Kieran Farrell and Razak Sudani each scored five points off the bench. Ryan Kenney came up with four points and four rebounds, and Solomon Garrison added two points and four assists.

Nikos Gerokostas pulled down five rebounds and Zane Witt came up with three boards.

The Bees will visit St. Francis Wednesday.
