Bees draw in first conference match of the season
St. Ambrose women's soccer traveled to Snowbarger Athletic Complex in Bourbonnais, Illinois, for the first conference match of the season to face the Olivet Nazarene Tigers. The Bees tied 1-1 on a brisk Wednesday evening.
The Bees came out strong but struggled offensively in the first half, recording only two shots to the Tigers' fifteen. In the 28th minute of the play, Olivet Nazarene struck first, putting the Tigers up 1-0 from outside the eighteen. The rest of the half remained calm.
In the second half, St. Ambrose was persistent on finding the back of the net. The Bees noted nine shots to the Tigers' six, and four corners to the Tigers' zero. It wasn't until the 84th minute of the match that the Bees capitalized to tie the game. With six minutes remaining, Isabella Crawford lined up to take a corner and dropped the ball perfectly to Mia Vetter, who headed the ball into the back of the net. The last five minutes were back and forth until the game ended.
Mia Vetter led the team in shots with four, Jenna Horst and Crawford trailed with three, and Mia Hefner tallied one.
Jonna Tucker had seven saves from the Tigers' eight shots on goal.
Next up, the Bees will host Holy Cross College, Saturday, September 20th at 2:00 p.m. at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in Davenport, Iowa.
