SAU dominates Trinity Christian on senior day
St. Ambrose showed no mercy against the Trolls of Trinity Christian in a 78-42 victory in Lee Lohman Arena earlier this afternoon. SAU finished out their last game of the regular season shooting near 50% from the field. This win helps the Bees finish the season 9-18 overall and 7-13 in CCAC play.
Before the contest, Allie Govert and Kania Starks were the two seniors recognized for their contributions to the St. Ambrose women's basketball program throughout the years.
St. Ambrose started ahead and never looked back as they put together a 7-0 run in the first three minutes of the contest. The Bees even doubled up the Trolls in the opening quarter at 14-7 after a 3-pointer by Caitlyn Thole. Thole went on and scored the next two buckets to extend the already optimistic lead for SAU.
The second period was no different as Carrieanne Hungate knocked down a jumper to put the Bees ahead 21-11. Abby Wolter, then, sank two free throws and a layup on back-to-back possessions to help SAU run away with the lead before the halftime break.
The Bees were up 38-24 at the break with another 20 minutes of action ahead of them.
SAU netted another 23 points in the third quarter while holding Trinity Christian to only six scores. Payton Calouette and Wolter each scored seven in the quarter.
To close out the 78-42 victory, Emma Rutter, Starks, and Elly Doe joined in on the scoring action.
The Bees netted 20 points off 23 Troll turnovers and SAU scored 24 points off the bench.
Four Bees scored in double figures this evening. Thole scored a team-high 22 points as Wolter added another double-double to her resume with 19 points and 12 rebounds. Hungate netted 13 scores while Calouette chipped in 11 points.
Starks added four points, Doe added three points, and Olivia Harter, Govert, and Rutter each scored two.
Calouette and Thole grabbed seven and five rebounds, respectively. Mary Gruber and Govert both pulled down three boards.
Calouette led the Bees with eight assists as Thole followed behind with five. Thole came away with seven steals.
Wolter (2) and Calouette (1) each accounted for a block in the contest.
This loss concludes the season for the Bees.
