St. Ambrose sweeps Trinity Christian
With all 21 Bees taking the court, St. Ambrose swept Trinity Christian 25-19, 25-16, 26-24 Tuesday night in Lee Lohman Arena.
SAU hit .326 for the match, which included a .455 mark (14 kills, four errors) in the second set.
Trinity Christian (4-15, 2-9 CCAC) hit just .062.
The only drama came in the third set, when the Bees, looking for their first 3-0 sweep since a win over Cornerstone on Feb. 21, squandered an early five-point lead and found themselves tied at 23-23 late.
Ian Cordes put down a kill for a match point, which the Trolls quickly erased. A Trinity Christian error gave St. Ambrose (19-9, 8-4 CCAC) a second match point and a TCC hitting error handed the Bees the victory.
Ten different Bees recorded a kill.
Pedro Zang led the way with 11 kills and just a single hitting error in 14 total chances. He hit .714.
The reigning CCAC Attacker of the Week Michael Bos continued his strong play with 10 kills and two errors in 14 attempts for a .571 htting percentage.
Kam Dixon finished with six kills and Cordes had five. Charlie Flynn ended with three while Jon Guch, Kainalu Ka'ahanui and Chayce Stouffer put down two apiece. Anthony Anderson and Zander Larson each added one kill.
Anderson recorded 16 assists and Felipe Prieto handed out 15. Matt Cannon and Ethan Karban each had three.
Karban also picked up a team-best seven digs. Dixon claimed six.
Bos and Cordes led the team with four blocks apiece. Guch, Flynn and Zang were in on three blocks each, and Dixon and Carter Zelnis each registered two.
Chase Cline, Evan Rozhon, Conner Rogalski, Ryan Rehacek, Collen Mauga and Jaxon Mitchell also played in the win.
The victory sets up an important closing stretch for the Bees. SAU, currently in third place in the CCAC standings, will visit second-place Governors State on Thursday before ending the regular season at home on Senior Day next Tuesday against fourth-place Olivet Nazarene.
