SAU shakes off slow start to defeat Viterbo 3-1

St. Ambrose didn't get off to the start it wanted, but the Bees made sure it didn't matter as they took down Viterbo 30-32, 25-9, 25-14, 25-14 Thursday night in La Crosse, Wis.

SAU didn't play poorly in the opener, but couldn't close things out. The Bees held seven set points but did not capitalize. Viterbo (6-17, 3-4 CCAC) earned its first set point at 31-30 and quickly converted to steal the set.

St. Ambrose (15-8, 5-3 CCAC) elevated its play from there.

After collecting 11 hitting errors in the first set, the Bees had just 10 combined the rest of the way. That came alongside 32 kills for a .373 hitting percentage over the final three sets.

SAU hit .292 for the match while VU finished with more errors (36) than kills (32) for a -.037 mark.

Pedro Zang led the way with 12 kills. Michael Bos put down 11 and Kam Dixon narrowly missed double figures with nine kills.

Jon Guch finished with seven, Charlie Flynn had six and Kainalu Ka'ahanui added three. Zander Larson had the other SAU kill.
