Bees need four to best Crimson Wave
Other than a hiccup in the second set, St. Ambrose had little problem dispatching Calumet 25-13, 30-32, 25-13, 25-11 Thursday night in Lee Lohman Arena.
The Bees rolled out a dominant effort in the opening set, putting down 15 kills against just one hitting error to hit .609.
SAU allowed Calumet (0-15, 0-5 CCAC) to climb back into the match by watching the Crimson Wave steal the second set, but the Bees slammed the door from there.
St. Ambrose (13-6, 3-1 CCAC) fought off a sluggish start to the third before overpowering Calumet the rest of the way.
The Bees finished with 50 kills and just 16 errors to hit .324 for the match. Take out the second set, and the hitting percentage jumps to .406.
Calumet had 13 kills and a mere two hitting errors in the second. Over the other three sets, the Wave collected a combined 14 kills and 23 errors.
Ten different Bees had multiple kills with Pedro Zang leading the way with 12.
Zander Larson finished with seven kills, Kam Dixon had six, and Jon Guch and Charlie Flynn added five apiece. Michael Bos put down four kills and three Bees - Ian Cordes, Conner Rogalski and Carter Zelnis - had three each. Kainalu Ka'ahanui finished with two kills.
Anthony Anderson passed out 17 assists to go along with five digs. Matt Cannon was credited with 13 assists. Ka'ahanui added seven assists.
Ethan Karban led all players with 15 digs. Larson picked up nine and Felipe Prieto came up with seven.
Anderson and Cole Rubio each had two of the team's nine aces in the win.
Bos and Zang were each in on five blocks, including two solo blocks apiece.
SAU will visit Trinity Christian Saturday.
