SAU rallies to defeat Indiana Tech in five sets

St. Ambrose rallied from a two-set deficit to defeat Indiana Tech in five Saturday to close the two-day Mighty Oak Invite hosted by Oakland City.

After forcing a fifth set, the Bees fought off a pair of match points before ultimately pulling out the 16-25, 18-25, 25-16, 25-20, 17-15 victory.

Michael Bos was in on the two blocks that erased the two Indiana Tech match points, first combining with Pedro Zang and then with Kam Dixon, to tie the set at 14-14.

St. Ambrose (6-3) escaped another match point before a kill from Zang gave SAU a 16-15 lead. Zang and Charlie Flynn then combined for a match-clinching block.

Dixon led the way with 18 kills. Zang finished with 13 and Bos had 11. Flynn finished with seven kills. Anthony Anderson was credited with 31 assists while Felipe Prieto had seven. Ethan Karban picked up 17 digs and Zang had eight. Zang and Bos were each in on five blocks.

The Bees nearly picked up a second win in the two-day event in Indiana, but they fell to No. 9 Campbellsville 25-16, 20-25, 19-25, 25-22, 15-5 Friday morning.

Zang (14) and Dixon (12) each recorded double-digit kills. Bos finished with nine and Flynn added seven. Kainalu Ka'ahanui came up with four kills. Prieto led the team with 21 assists and Anderson had 16. Karban claimed 14 digs and Prieto added nine. Bos and Zang had six blocks apiece.

Later Friday, St. Ambrose lost to Reinhardt 25-13, 29-27, 25-19.

Dixon put down 12 kills to lead the way. Bos finished with five and Zang and Jon Guch had two kills each. Anderson had a team-best 26 assists. Karban registered 12 digs.

SAU will visit Culver-Stockton Friday.
