Bees drop first game to Vikings

St. Ambrose men's soccer travelled to Des Moines, Iowa, on Wednesday evening to take on the Grand View Vikings. The Bees dropped their first game of the season, 1-3, against the Vikings.

The Bees were outshot by the Vikings 24-8 and earned three corner kicks to the Vikings two.

The first half was quiet until Grand View struck first in the 37th minute. The Vikings possessed most of the offensive control in the half, putting up nine shots to the Bees two.

In the 8th minute of the second half, the Vikings extended their lead to two goals. Four minutes later, St. Ambrose responded to cut the lead in half. Luiz Ferbeyre lofted the ball past the goalie from just outside the 18. The attempt came from a Ricardo Ronconi kick in the Bees defensive half of the field that passed the Viking defenders.

The Bees were unable to continue that momentum to push past Grand View. St. Ambrose put up two more shots that were just off target. The Vikings tallied a third goal in the 32nd minute of the half.

Jörn Reck and Ferbeyre led St. Ambrose with three shots. Followed by Joe Campbell and Ronconi, who each collected one shot.

Bees' goalie, Dawson Yegge, tallied six saves off the Vikings nine shots on goal.

The Bees are back in action Saturday, September 13, as they host the Dordt Defenders. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
