SAU cruises past Wisconsin Lutheran

St. Ambrose had little trouble taking care of Wisconsin Lutheran in the Bees' home opener Friday. Both the SAU men and women won by identical 7-0 scores.

Neither Miguel Sampaio nor Phoenix Hughes dropped a game in their 6-0, 6-0 wins at No. 4 and 6 singles, respectively. Austin Hutton lost just two games in his 6-2, 6-0 win at No. 5.

The top three Bees also each won in straight sets.

Sebastian Arevalo earned a 6-3, 6-0 win at No. 1. Gabriel Guimaray won 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. And at No. 3, Shingai Manyonga cruised to a 6-1, 6-2 victory.

The top two Bee doubles teams won by 6-0 margins. Arevalo and Guimaray won at No. 1 and Manyonga and Sampaio played at No. 2. The No. 3 team of Hutton and Marcus Lang fell 6-4 in the only SAU setback of the afternoon.

With Wisconsin Lutheran only bringing three players, the St. Ambrose women had no issues in their 7-0 win.

Chiara Aguirre Cortez was dominant in her 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Hayden Evans didn't drop a game in her 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 2. Jenna Smithmeyer pulled away for a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3.

Catherine Meystrik, Yeva Shershan and Riley Heiar all won singles matches via forfeit.

In the only women's doubles match, SAU's top team of Meystrik and Smithmeyer teamed for a 6-0 win. The team of Aguirre Cortez and Evans and the team of Shershan and Ellie Farley were credited with forfeit wins.

The St. Ambrose men (4-1) and SAU women (3-2) will host Millikin next Friday.
