SAU earns share of CCAC title; enters conference tourney as No. 3 seed
St. Ambrose earned a share of the regular-season conference title and will enter the upcoming CCAC Tournament as the No. 3 seed as postseason play gets underway Tuesday.
A three-way tie at the top featured St. Ambrose (10-5-3), Holy Cross (9-5-3), and Saint Xavier (9-4-4) with matching 8-1-3 league marks. Through tiebreakers, Holy Cross earned the top seed while Saint Xavier slid into the second spot and St. Ambrose slid to the third.
Two-time defending regular-season and tournament champion St. Ambrose, Saint Xavier, and Olivet Nazarene enter the tournament as the hottest teams. Each of those squads have won their last four matches in a row.
Claiming the top seed in the tournament has also punched Holy Cross' ticket to the NAIA National Tournament Opening Round. The conference's other automatic bid goes to the tournament champion.
Should Holy Cross also gain the tournament crown, Saint Xavier would collect the second berth by virtue of earning the No. 2 seed in the tournament.
St. Ambrose will play Viterbo in their opening match at 6 p.m. at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex in Davenport, Iowa. The semifinal round will take place on Friday, and the Championship match will be on Tuesday, November 11th, at the highest remaining seed.
