Bees wrap up regular season with 17-11 win

Wednesday night in Davenport, Iowa, the Bees battled Missouri Valley College in a home conference game. St. Ambrose grabbed the early lead and exchanged goals throughout until pulling away for a 17-11 win. 

In the Bees' final regular season of the game, they started strongly, scoring off the opening draw control. Anabelle Brown won the initial draw, and took it straight to the cage for a goal. SAU followed this up with Raegan Dotterer passing it to Morgan O'Malley for a goal. Shortly after, Katie McGlynn dodged past her defender and put the ball past the goalie for a goal. Down 3-0, the Vikings fought back scoring two in a row to make it a one-goal game. On a man-up opportunity, McGlynn found Brown open for a shot and goal to get the Bees back up two. That goal ended the period 4-2 in favor of St. Ambrose.

Missouri Valley opened up the second quarter to make the score 4-3. Off a foul, the Bees were given a free-position shot, McGlynn took advantage and scored to give the Bees a big goal. Brown followed this up with another goal for SAU. Seven minutes later, the Vikings answered with a goal to make the score 6-4. Off another free-position shot, Cailey Kramer scored to spark energy for the Bees. Dotterer followed it with another goal for St. Ambrose. Off the following draw control, Karsen Jummati won the draw and passed it to Brown for another goal. That put the Bees up 9-4 to end the first half. 

In a competitive third quarter, the Vikings scored first and followed it up right after. SAU, up 9-6, found the net with Dotterer passing it to McGlynn for a goal. Abby Vanderwarren followed by dodging by her defender and scoring. Missouri Valley answered back and ended the quarter with the St. Ambrose lead at 11-7. 

In an action-packed fourth quarter. The Vikings scored first which brought the lead down to 11-8. St. Ambrose answered with a four-goal run with Kramer scoring two, Jummati getting one, and McGlynn notching her third of the game. Missouri Valley was still battling and notched in another, but Dotterer answered right back with a goal to bring the lead 16-9. The Vikings scored two more before Abby Taaffe scored the final dagger to win the game 17-11. 

In this high-scoring match for SAU, Brown lead the way with four goals while McGlynn and Kramer each scored three. Dotterer and Jummati each tagged in two while Vanderwarren, Taaffe, and O'Malley each notched one. With five assists on the day, Dotterer created two while Jummati, Kramer, and McGlynn each got one.

Saige Carlton led the way for defense making four saves on the night. The Bees caused a total of 15 turnovers on the night with Taaffe and Jummati leading with three while Kramer and McGlynn each caused two. Delaney Cunningham, Vanderwarren, Eve Hanlon, Brown, and Carlton each caused one.

This 17-11 victory finished the Bees' regular season at 6-6 overall and 5-3 in conference. Now in the postseason, St. Ambrose will host a quarterfinal round of the playoffs this Saturday against Culver-Stockton.
