St. Ambrose wraps up Spring Break with a win in Livonia
Thursday afternoon, the Bees finished up their Spring Break trip in Livonia, Mich., taking on Madonna. With a dominant performance, St. Ambrose is headed back home with a 17-5 win.
After losing in a tough matchup against Siena Heights earlier in the week, SAU came to play making a statement early on. The Bees started the game on a four-goal run with goals coming from Katie McGlynn (two), Anabelle Brown, and Karsen Jummati (assisted from McGlynn). Madonna put in a goal with four minutes left which stopped the Bees run. Raegan Dotterer scored a goal with 30 seconds left in the quarter, which put the Bees in the lead 5-1 ending the first quarter.
Madonna started the second quarter with efforts for a comeback with a three-goal run. The Bees went scoreless until two minutes left in the half when Brown scored a big one for SAU putting their lead up 6-4. SAU found momentum after that goal which led to McGlynn scoring a goal ending the half which put the Bees up 7-4.
St. Ambrose found a second wind at halftime going on a seven-goal run in the third quarter. Those seven goals came from four different Bees - Brown, Dotterer with three, McGlynn with two, and Saige Carlton scoring on a man-down goal. Brenna Weitekamp held the Crusaders scoreless making four saves which put the Bees up 14-4 at the end of the third quarter.
SAU kept rolling in the fourth scoring another three unanswered goals. On this run, Cailey Kramer found the back of the net for her first time this game and followed it up with another goal, assisted by Dotterer. Dotterer had the third goal of the run giving the Bees a 17-4 lead. Madonna closed out the game scoring one more which ended the game 17-5.
In this dominant win for the Bees, McGlynn and Dotterer lead the way for SAU both notching five goals on the day. More goals came from Brown with three, Krammer with two, and Carlton and Jummati both notching in one. Three assists were tallied on the day coming from Brown, McGlynn and Dotterer. Abby Taaffe held it down on the defensive end with three caused turnovers and five ground balls. Weitekamp ended the day with an impressive eight saves on 12 shots.
St. Ambrose looks to keep things rolling next Wednesday in a conference match at Missouri Baptist.
