Bowling teams compete at Hoosier Classic

SAU's bowling squads competed at the biggest Tier 1 event of the season this past weekend. The event was the 57th annual Hoosier Classic, held in Indianapolis, Ind.

The men's team finished 11th in a field of 78 teams, while the women turned in a 22nd-place effort from a 64-team field. The event always attracts the most prestigious starting field in bowling, with most of the top-50 ranked teams in the nation in attendance.

The men started slowly on Saturday, and fought their way back from 37th place to finish 11th with a 7910 pinfall total. The top three seeds were Wichita State (8510), Aquinas College (8482) and McKendree (8312). Webber International, the No. 8 seed, knocked off No. 6 seed Newman 3-1 in the championship match.

SAU team members included Tyler Close (1078-five games), Devin Richards (1062-five games), Kendric Siders (1032-five games), Evan White (889-four games), Elias O'Hollaren (588-three games), Kevin Magnuson (168-one game), Keaten Bieri (158-one game) and Lucas Hersrud (155-one game).

Meanwhile, the women fought hard to finish in 22nd place with a 7251 pinfall total. The top three teams in qualifying were Pikeville (7994), Mount Mercy (7932) and Milligan (7906). In the bracket finals, Mount Mercy prevailed in the championship match.

SAU women's team members included Marissa Bills (1095-five games), Kayla Staub (903-five games), Emma Taft (901-five games), Brooklyn Schlapkohl (871-five games), Gianna Koszut (491-three games), Mia Almeida (312-two games) and Sophie Schillie.

The top 80 men's and women's collegiate bowling programs will find out this Wednesday evening at 6 p.m. where they will be assigned for sectionals. The 2026 sectional locations are Addison, Ill.; Smyrna, Tenn.; Dallas, Texas; and Pittsburg, Pa.
