Bees breeze by Blue Angels

All 10 Bees scored as St. Ambrose rolled to a 104-28 win over Mount Mary Wednesday night in Lee Lohman Arena.

The Bees shot better than 50 percent from the floor, out-rebounded the Blue Angels 55-33 and forced 28 turnovers in the victory.

Leading just 4-3 two minutes into the game, St. Ambrose (12-13, 9-8 CCAC) turned it on. An Abby Wolter layup sparked a run of 13 straight points that pushed the lead to 17-3.

The margin was 24-7 after one quarter and ballooned from there. SAU outscored Mount Mary (8-17, 1-16 CCAC) 29-5 in the second to lead 53-12 at the half. A 31-point third quarter extended the lead to 84-23.

Five Bees scored in double figures, led by Wolter's 26 points. She added 15 rebounds, seven assists, five steals and three blocks.

Jayla Stirgus recorded 15 points to go along with five assists and three steals.

Emma Rutter and Caitlyn Thole each scored 14. Rutter added four boards and three steals while Thole posted three rebounds, two assists and six steals.

Isabella Hutchinson finished with 11 points, seven rebounds and four assists off the bench.

Payton Calouette registered seven points, four rebounds and three assists. Elly Doe had six points, three boards and two assists. Mary Gruber chipped in with five points, five rebounds and two assists. Erin Jolin had four points, seven rebounds, two assists and three steals. And Olivia Harter finished with two points, two rebounds and two assists.

Mount Mary shot just 16 percent from the field and was just 3-of-21 from beyond the arc. Only two Blue Angels scored in the game.

St. Ambrose will close out the home portion of its schedule Saturday by hosting Olivet Nazarene on Senior Day.
