Wolter and Thole honored on CCAC all-conference honor roll
Abby Wolter and Caitlyn Thole were both recognized by the Chicagoland Collegiate Athletic Conference today as members of the women's basketball all-conference teams. Wolter earned second team recognition while Thole was named to the honorable mention team for postseason awards.
Wolter, the second team all-conference selection, led the Bees in scoring this season as she netted 17.1 points per game as she was instrumental in SAU's success. Wolter scored in double figures 22 times this season and scored a season-high of 28 points vs. Ohio Christian on Dec. 17. The junior forward was second on the team in rebounding with 7.9 rebounds per contest. She was also second in assists as she averaged 2.5 assists per game, just behind the leader (2.6). The Keokuk, Iowa native was an impact player for St. Ambrose, this showed as she averaged 35 minutes per contest, six minutes more than any other player on her team. On eight occasions all season, the team captain played in all 40 minutes of action for the Bees.
This season, Wolter joined the 1,000 point scoring club as her 1,000th Bee point came in a road contest at Indiana South Bend on Jan. 11. Wolter currently sits at 1,195 career points. As a sophomore, Wolter was recognized on the CCAC honorable mention team. She has also been recognized on the CCAC All-Academic Team, the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, and as a NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
Thole, a honorable mention selection finished second on the team in scoring, just behind Wolter, as she averaged 12.4 points per game for St. Ambrose. Thole knocked in a season-high 25 points on Nov. 9 when they Bees played No. 23 Briar Cliff at home. While on the floor, the junior guard was elite on the boards for the Bees as she grabbed down 7.6 rebounds a game. The Princeville, Ill. native was a critical component on the floor as she led the team in assists and steals as she registered 2.6 assists per contest and 2.1 steals per contest. Twice this season she came away with a game-high seven steals in a contest. She started and played in all 27 contests this season for the Bees, only one of two players to accomplish this feat for St. Ambrose this season.
Thole is a back-to-back CCAC honorable mention selection. She is just short of scoring her 1,000th point as she currently sits at 901 career points. Thole has also been recognized on the CCAC All-Academic team, the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team, and as a NAIA Scholar-Athlete.
The Bees finished their season 9-18 overall and 7-13 in CCAC conference play.
