SAU gets 4-2 win over Calumet

St. Ambrose managed just three hits, but that's all the Bees needed in a 4-2 win over Calumet Monday afternoon at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.

One of those hits, and two of the runs, came in the opening inning. SAU took advantage of two walks - one to Shai Erdrich and one to Kylee Claypool - and a pair of passed balls in the inning. Erdrich scored on the first passed ball and Alena Holder later singled to bring in Claypool for a fast 2-0 lead.

Calumet got a run in the third before St. Ambrose (25-12, 15-2 CCAC) went back to work in the sixth.

Becca Haag ripped a one-out single to left and came around to score on Claypool's double. Claypool then came in to score on a Mya Millsaps ground out to push the lead to 4-1.

The Crimson Wave started the seventh with a solo home run and CCSJ ultimately put the potential tying runs on base with only one out before Shea Meech got out of the jam.

Bianca Shorter earned the win by allowing just one run over three innings. Leah Maro worked the next three innings and only surrendered a run before Meech picked up the save by recording the final three outs.

The two teams will conclude their three-game series with a doubleheader in Whiting, Ind., Tuesday.
