Winning streak hits five with shutout of Trolls

St. Ambrose remained unbeaten in the month of April by running its winning streak to five games with an 8-0 six-inning shutout of Trinity Christian Thursday afternoon in Palos Heights, Ill.

It was also the second straight shutout by the Bees, who have not been scored upon in the last 13 innings.

Bianca Shorter was dominant, allowing just one hit and two baserunners while striking out seven, to earn her seventh win of the season.

Shorter allowed a two-out infield single in the second and a leadoff walk to start the fourth. Otherwise, she retired the other 18 hitters she faced.

The Bees scored the only run they would need just three batters into the contest. Shai Erdrich started the game with a single. She stole second and took third on a throwing error by the Troll catcher. Two batters later, Brynnlin Kroymann doubled to score Erdrich.

An inning later, Erdrich drove in Alena Holder, and in the third, Holder's sacrifice fly to right scored Shea Meech to extend the lead to 3-0.

Taylor Martyn doubled to score pinch-runner Becca Haag in the fifth as the lead grew to 4-0.

St. Ambrose (22-12, 12-2 CCAC) then doubled its lead in the sixth.

Anna Engberg had an RBI single to score Reagan Engberg, and after Kroymann walked to load the bases, Meech brought all three runners in with a double down the left-field line.

Meech and Kroymann each finished with two hits. Erdrich, Anna Engberg, Martyn, Holder, Reagan Engberg, Mya Millsaps and Kylie Schult also had hits in the win.

The two teams will complete their three-game series with a doubleheader at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex Saturday.
