Bees get walk-off win in series opener with Tigers
Mya Millsaps hit a two-out, two-run single in the bottom of the seventh to lift St. Ambrose to a 3-2 win over Olivet Nazarene in the first game of a three-game series Friday afternoon at St. Vincent's.
With the Bees trailing 2-1 entering the final frame, Anna Engberg got things started with a one-out single. Alena Holder was hit by a pitch, and one out later, Taylor Martyn was also hit to load the bases.
Then Millsaps came through with her single to left to plate both Engberg and Holder for the walk-off win.
The victory came after St. Ambrose (18-12, 8-2 CCAC) fell behind 2-0 after one inning.
Millsaps was also involved in the first Bee run. She ripped a two-out double to left in the second and came around to score on Shea Meech's single to center to cut the deficit in half.
SAU, who had at least one runner on base in every inning, also saw history set before coming back for the win.
In the fifth, Shai Erdrich reached base and then stole second for her 52nd stolen base of the season. That broke her previous single-season school record of 51 steals she set back in 2024.
Millsaps finished 3-for-3, collecting half of the team's six hits. Engberg, Meech and Ellie Downing had the others. SAU also drew five walks and was hit by a pitch three times.
Leah Maro recovered after giving up the two first-inning runs to go the distance. She only allowed three hits over her final six scoreless innings.
The two teams will complete their three-game series with a doubleheader in Bourbonnais, Ill., Saturday.
