Bees drop pair in Gulf Shores
Errors proved costly as St. Ambrose miscues led to a pair of unearned runs in a 3-2 loss to Brenau on the Bees' second day of games at the Gulf Coast Invitational in Gulf Shores, Ala., Saturday.
One of those unearned runs came in the second to tie the game after Anna Engberg's single in the first scored Shai Erdrich for a quick 1-0 SAU lead.
After the Golden Tigers took a 2-1 lead in the fourth, Kylie Schult's ground out brought in Kylee Claypool to even the score at 2-2.
But in the sixth, an SAU error allowed a runner to advance two bases before she ultimately scored on a bunt single.
Taylor Martyn walked with two outs in the seventh, but was stranded at first.
Mya Millsaps finished with two of the Bees' five hits. Erdrich, Anna Engberg and Claypool had the others.
Leah Maro took the loss. She allowed only one earned run over seven innings.
St. Ambrose (8-8) could come up with only two hits in an 8-0 five-inning loss to No. 10 Southeastern to finish the day.
A three-run home run in the bottom of the first got the Fire started. Southeastern broke things open with four runs in the fourth before ending things with a final run in the fifth.
Becca Haag and Reagan Engberg had the two Bee hits.
Bianca Shorter took the loss. Shea Meech recorded two outs in relief.
SAU will close its trip Sunday with games against A&M-Victoria and No. 9 Our Lady of the Lake.
