SAU moves to 7-1 with three more Dome victories

St. Ambrose moved to 7-1 on the season by taking three of four games at the second Dome Tournament Saturday and Sunday.
The Bees defeated Missouri Valley 3-1 and 2-1 and beat Clarke 7-5. The lone loss was a 9-8 decision to No. 11 Midland.
Anna Engberg and Kylee Claypool drove in first-inning runs in the first win over Missouri Valley. The Vikings got one run back in the third before Taylor Martyn's sacrifice fly scored Maddi Larsen with an insurance run in the fourth.
Bianca Shorter and Leah Maro made that lead hold up. Shorter earned the win by striking out seven over six innings. Maro pitched the seventh to get the save.
Shai Erdrich, Engberg, Becca Haag, Claypool and Brynnlin Kroymann had hits in the victory.
In the second win over Missouri Valley, Kylee Vaughn got the scoring started with a single to plate Larsen in the fourth. Mya Millsaps followed with an RBI ground out. The Vikings' lone run came in the fifth.
Shea Meech allowed the one run over 5 1/3 innings to get the win. Shorter recorded the final five outs for the save.
Kylie Schult collected two of the Bees' five hits.
After spotting Clarke a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, St. Ambrose came back with a six-run bottom of the first in the eventual 7-5 win.
Schult finished 3-for-4 and drove in a pair of runs. Erdrich, Claypool and Anna Holder each had two hits. Erdrich and Millsaps joined Schult with two RBIs. Haag, Ellie Downing, Millsaps and Parker Leonard also had hits.
Maro went 5 1/3 innings and struck out four to earn the win. Shorter picked up another save by striking out two over the final 1 2/3 frames.
The Bees put together another six-run first inning against Midland, but it wasn't enough as they fell 9-8.
St. Ambrose led 7-0 after three innings before Midland pushed across six runs in the fourth. The Warriors added three runs in the sixth before the Bees got their final tally in the seventh.
Erdrich (three) and Claypool (two) had multi-hit games. Engberg, Downing, Martyn and Millsaps also had hits. Claypool and Martyn drove in a pair of runs apiece.
Maro took the loss. Meech did not allow a run over the final two innings.
SAU will host its third and final Dome Tournament next weekend.
