Bees race at Mustang Distance Carnival & Open
Over the course of two days this weekend, Friday and Saturday, the Bees raced at Mount Mercy University at the Mustang Distance Carnival & Open.
Day one started off strong with the men's 4x800-meter relay (Tyler Moody, Elijah House, Chris Miserendino and Dylan Grandon) qualifying for nationals with the B standard and a time of 7:38.27.
Kaitlyn Knoche ran her best time while breaking the school record of nine years in the 5k with a time of 17:43.34, placing her 13th in the NAIA.
Other highlighted performances included the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Lynzie Cady, Lucy Oehler, Claire O'Melia and Sarah Jordan setting a season's best time of 4:07.35.
In the men's 1500m, Benett Boatright PRd by nine seconds with a time of 4:24.45. In the same event on the women's side, Alexis Havercamp and Loryn Heil PRd with times of 5:27 and 5:51.
Josiah Carter and Trenten Kimes PRd in the high jump with marks of 1.91m and 1.81m. Lauren Johnson ran a PR of 18:27 in the 5k. In the men's 5k, Jack Degner PRd by breaking 16 minutes with a time of 15:58 and Luke Getz PRd with a time of 15:34. Joe Reinhart and Trenton Blackwell threw a season's best in the shot put with a mark of 15.40m and 13.25m, respectively. In the women's shot put, Tosin Oshin threw a season's best of 11.62m.
Day two, some performances that stood out included Sarah Jordan in the 100m placing first with a time of 12.16 seconds while also placing first in the 200m with a time of 25.56 seconds. Carlie Woolm got a PR in the 800m with a time of 2:31.97, and the women's 4x100 ran a time of 49.35.
On the mens side, Kaizer Riley placed fifth with a time of 11.18 in the mens 100m finals, Jeremy Bachus placed 10th in the men's 200m (23.18), and Zachary Brown ran the 400m with a time of 53.69. Elijah House placed first in the open 800m with a time of 1:54.83, and in the men's elite 800m, Dylan Grandon and Chris Miserendino placed second and third with times of 1:52.33 and 1:54.53. Anthony Conard PRd in the 1500m on day two (4:34).
As the season starts to pass the halfway point, these athletes are gearing up for the big conference meet in three weeks. Next week's meet will be the Meet of Champions at Augustana College on April 18th!
