Bees take advantage of forfeits to defeat Eagles

Thanks to three singles forfeits and a pair of doubles forfeits, St. Ambrose had no problem taking down Judson 5-2 Saturday afternoon at the Davenport West tennis courts.

Yeva Shershan picked up a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles for the other Bee point. Chiara Aguirre Cortez and Hayden Evans dropped a 6-3 decision at No. 1 doubles.

Kate Jones, Sarah Baxter and Maddie Brosnahan each won a singles match by forfeit. Jenna Smithmeyer and Paige Owens at No. 2 and Shershan and Jones at No. 3 won doubles matches via forfeit.

It was the fourth straight dual win for the Bees, who moved to 8-8 overall and 2-1 in the CCAC.

The SAU men fell to 7-8 overall and 0-2 in the conference after a 6-1 loss to Judson.

Sebastian Arevalo Piraquive won the first set 6-4 before his opponent retired at No. 1 singles in the lone St. Ambrose win. Miguel Sampaio and Jaime Febres fell 6-3 at No. 2 doubles in the most competitive of the three doubles matches.

The men and women will host Holy Cross Monday.
