St. Ambrose falls 2–0 to Saint Xavier at home
The St. Ambrose men's soccer team hosted Saint Xavier University on Wednesday evening at the St. Vincent's Athletic Complex. The Cougars scored two second-half goals to hand the Bees a 2–0 loss.
After a calm first half that saw both teams create chances, the score remained scoreless heading into halftime. St. Ambrose came out strong in the second half, pushing the tempo and firing nine shots, but it was Saint Xavier who capitalized on their opportunities.
The Cougars broke through in the 60th minute of the match. Just two minutes later, Saint Xavier doubled its lead and called the game at 2-0. St. Xavier was very aggressive in their play, noting seventeen fouls throughout the match.
St. Ambrose matched the Cougars in total shots, 14–14, and held an 8–7 edge in corner kicks, but couldn't find the finishing touch. Josh Simon and Luis Ferbeyre led the Bees with three shots. Elias Skogland and Ricardo Ronconi both trailed with two shots. Dylan Ollendieck, Joe Campbell, Hunter Lillie, and Emilio Su Gomez each recorded a shot as well.
Goalkeeper Dawson Yegge was busy in the net, making eight saves while facing ten shots on goal.
The Bees will look to bounce back on Saturday, October 11th, hosting Trinity Christian College at 3:00 p.m. at St. Vincent Athletic Complex in Davenport, Iowa.
