St. Ambrose defeats Defenders
St. Ambrose men's soccer hosted the Dordt Defenders on a hot Saturday afternoon in Davenport, Iowa. The Bees came out on top with a 4-1 victory at St. Vincent's Athletic Complex.
St. Ambrose outshot Dordt 15-9 and earned six corner kicks to the Defenders' five. With the tough pressure from the Defenders' fouls, the Bees were determined to win the game.
The Bees struck first in the 32nd minute on a free kick Jörn Reck took, lofting the ball towards the goal where Jake Pollock was able to push it past the Defenders' goalie. Dordt responded with a goal of their own with less than two minutes left in the first half. The teams went into halftime tied.
St. Ambrose controlled the second half against Dordt. Within three minutes, the Bees extended their lead to 4-1. Twelve minutes into the second half, Josh Simon was fouled in the box, resulting in a successful penalty kick attempt. One minute later, Reck tallied his own goal of the game, assisted by Pollock and Simon. Two minutes after that goal, Pollock sent the ball in the net for his second and final goal of the game.
Pollock led St. Ambrose with five shots. Followed by Ezequiel Solzi and Kai Yoshikane with two. Ricardo Ronconi, Emelio Su Gomez, Matheus Migueis, Luiz Ferbeyre, Simon, and Reck tallied one shot.
Bees' goalie, Dawson Yegge, collected five total saves off the Defenders' nine shots.
The Bees are back in action on Wednesday, September 17, for a matchup with the Hannibal-LaGrange Trojans. Kickoff is set for 3:00 p.m.
