Elliott captures two goals as Bees draw at Hannibal-LaGrange
The Bees headed to Hannibal-LaGrange for a non-conference matchup against the Trojans. This was a rescheduled contest from earlier in the season as the first was stopped mid-game due to a heat advisory. This time around, St. Ambrose found the back of the net on two occasions behind the effort of Eli Elliott. Elliott scored twice to give SAU the 2-0 lead before a late surge from the Trojans to knot things at two each. The final decision was a wash at 2-2 to move St. Ambrose to 0-2-2 on the season.
HLGU would open the game with a shot and corner kick before the two minute mark. The Bees would fend off these opportunities as they traveled down to take a corner kick of their own. From there on, it would seem to be in the hands of the Trojans with shot after shot.
Eventually, SAU would settle in to find back to back shots of their own, forcing a goal keeper save. St. Ambrose would end the half with a Diego Hernandez strike. The first half was scoreless for both sides as they headed into the second looking to put a score on the board.
St. Ambrose struck first with a 66th minute goal from Eli Elliott to give the Bees a 1-0 lead. The game would look to end that way until the last eight minutes of play got interesting. Three goals from two sides were scored in the last eight minutes of play. Elliott netted a brace in the 83rd minute to double the Bees lead.
Not even a mere two minutes later, the Trojans found themselves on the board with a goal in the 85th minute. Hannibal-LaGrange would continue to push for that second goal. Eventually, it would fall for HLGU with less than four minutes left in the match.
St. Ambrose would threaten with a late corner kick from Thomas Gaither but nothing would come from the opportunity as the game would end 2-2.
The Bees held the corner kick battle edge with three.
SAU managed six shots with four on net. Eli Elliott went two for two as he registered two goals.
Kai Domagala collected eight saves in 90 minutes of play.
Next up, SAU will travel to #3 Bethel (Ind.) this Thursday. Kickoff is at 4 p.m. CST at Morey Field in Mishawaka, Ind..
