Wednesday night, the Bees traveled to Oskaloosa, Iowa, to battle William Penn in the last regular season game of the season. St. Ambrose came into the match 7-1 in conference and William Penn was 8-0, which made this game a battle for the Heart regular season conference championship. After going down early in the first, St. Ambrose fought back but couldn't grab the lead and lost the match 15-10.
Both teams, looking to become regular-season champions, came out hot and physical. The Statesmen opened up the scoring to take the early 1-0 lead. Four minutes later, the Bees stung with a fastbreak goal with Jagger Shaddix finding Eli Hahn open on crease for SAU's first goal. Tied 1-1, WPU scored three goals in two minutes to give them a 4-1 lead. With time expiring, the Statesmen scored again to grab the 5-1 lead to end the first.
Down four, the Bees came into the second quarter with found energy. Hahn on defense stripped the ball away, picked up the ground ball, and took it himself down the field notching a big goal for the Bees. Shortly after, SAU was given a man-up opportunity after a WPU penalty, and Ayden Fraelle took advantage running by his defender for a goal. William Penn then caught St. Ambrose ball-watching and found an open man on crease to take the 6-3 lead. A minute later, the Bees caused a turnover, and on the fastbreak Zakary Brown found Fraelle open on crease and snuck it by the goalie for a goal. Two minutes later, Anthony Lyons took a dodge and found Fraelle open on crease to confidently put the ball away. Fraelle with his third goal of the quarter brought the lead down to 6-5. WPU answered back when they scored on a man-up opportunity. After a Bees' missed shot, the Statesmen ran the ball down and scored on another fastbreak goal. That goal put St. Ambrose down 8-5 to end the first half.
Before the first half ended, St. Ambrose drew a penalty and was given a man-up opportunity. The Bees held the ball ending the time which elected to give them the ball to start the second half. SAU started with the ball and still man up, ran a play where Fraelle found Brown open low on the wing; and Brown stung the bottom corner to get the opening goal. WPU answered back with a goal to bring their lead up 9-6. Six minutes passed by until Lyons dodged across the middle of the field and shot on the run for an electric Bee goal. The Statesmen followed this up with found momentum and went on a four-goal run. That run put the Bees down 13-7. To close the quarter, Lachlan Hodge threw a skip pass to find Cameron Washington open on the backside for a diving goal. St. Ambrose ended the third quarter down 13-8.
SAU down five, looked for a way to comeback and take the one spot in the conference. To start the final quarter Ryan Swanson was swarmed by Statesmen and drew a penalty, but Brown picked up the ball and a loose play and scored to get the opening goal of the quarter. To follow up, Washington ran by his defender behind the cage and took it to the goal for a big score. That goal brought the lead down 13-10. WPU put an end to the Bees' run on a man-up goal. The Statesmen keeping possession off the faceoff scored again. St. Ambrose unable to get the ball back on offense went scoreless for the remainder of game and lost the contest 15-10
Fraelle led the charge on offense scoring three goals and tagging on one assist. Other goals came from Brown, Washington, and Hahn each notching in two while Lyons scored one. Dishing the ball, Shaddix, Hodge, Brown, Fraelle, and Lyons each assisted on one goal.
