St. Ambrose prepares for NAIA Men's Golf Championships
St. Ambrose will be making a return appearance at a familiar course when the 74th Annual NAIA Men's Golf National Championship tees off from TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill., next week.
The Bees will be competing at the National Tournament for the second straight year after winning the 2026 CCAC Men's Golf Championship, also played at TPC Deere Run, in late April.
This marks the 10th time the tournament has been played at the home course of the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic dating back to 2009. The course was the home of the NAIA Women's Championships in 2023 and 2024.
The 156-player field consists of 29 teams, including 18 conference champions, and 11 individual qualifiers.
Representing St. Ambrose will be Carsen Theis, Jacob Stoetzel, Ben King, Griffin Smits and Mason Steinert. Luke Purcell and Keegan Renz will serve as alternates.
Play begins Tuesday at 7 a.m. with the first Bee scheduled to tee off from hole No. 10 at 12:20 p.m. SAU will get started on hole No. 1 Wednesday at 7 a.m. The Bees will play alongside players from Wayland Baptist and Lewis-Clark State the first two days.
After two full rounds have been completed, the field will be cut, reducing things to the top 15 teams (plus ties) and six individuals who have not already made the cut with their teams (plus ties). Those remaining players will finish the four-day tournament Friday.
