St. Ambrose to compete at NAIA Championships
St. Ambrose will return as host of the NAIA Men's Golf National Championships when the four-day event officially gets underway next Tuesday at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
St. Ambrose will be one of 29 teams vying for a National Title in a field consisting of 156 players that also includes 11 individual qualifiers. The Bees earned a bid to the National Tournament by winning the CCAC Championships, also played at TPC Deere Run, in late April.
This will mark the program's first time at Nationals since 2022, which was the last time the event was played at TPC Deere Run. This will be the ninth time the tournament has been played at the home course of the PGA Tour's John Deere Classic. The course was the home of the NAIA Women's Championships the last two seasons.
The Bees will enter on a roll after claiming their first conference title since winning the 2009 Midwest Collegiate Conference crown.
Dylan McAleer became the program's first individual medalist at the CCAC Championships with a three-round 229. McAleer also earned all-CCAC First Team recognition, alongside teammates Colin Riggs and Carsen Theis.
The other two Bees in the national field - Griffin Smits and Jacob Stoetzel - were named to the all-conference second team. Ben King and Tim Marcum will serve as alternates.
Play begins Tuesday at 7 a.m. with the first Bee scheduled to tee off at noon. SAU will tee off at 7:20 a.m. in Wednesday's second round. St. Ambrose will play alongside players from William Carey and Campbellsville both days.
After two full rounds have been completed, the field will be cut, reducing things to the top 15 teams (plus ties) and six individuals who have not already made the cut with their teams (plus ties). Those remaining players will finish the four-day tournament Friday.
