St. Ambrose competes in two events

St. Ambrose faced a loaded field at the Northwest Iowa National Invitational played Monday and Tuesday at Le Mars Country Club in Le Mars, Iowa.

The sixth-annual, three-round event featured nationally-ranked teams from across the country.

Jacob Stoetzel was among the leaders early after shooting an even-par 71 and a 1-over 72 over his first two rounds. He slipped Tuesday, firing a 78, that left him with a 221 and in a tie for 26th place.

The other four Bees finished within five shots of each other. Ben King and Carsen Theis each came in with a 231. King put together rounds of 75, 77 and 79 while Theis recovered from a first-round 81 to shoot back-to-back 75s.

Colin Riggs (78-77-80) shot a 235 and Dylan McAleer (78-81-77) ended with a 236.

The Bees placed 14th with a 912 (302-301-309). Oklahoma City won the tournament with an 853 (276-281-296). Trinton Nobles, from Friends, claimed medalist honors with a 3-under 210 (67-71-72).

A second St. Ambrose team placed seventh at the Loras Duhawk Fall Invitational played Sunday and Monday at The Meadows in Asbury, Iowa.

Mason Steinert led the Bees with a 158 (82-76). Also competing were Vinny Messana (75-86=161), Tim Marcum (82-80=162), Griffin Smits (81-82=163) and Nathan Unes (82-84=166).

SAU finished with a 642 after rounds of 320 and 322. Dubuque's Luke Harwick was the individual medalist. He shot a 6-under 138 (69-69) and led his team to the team title (286-294=580).

St. Ambrose will host its only event of the fall - the NAIA National Preview - next Monday and Tuesday at TPC Deere Run in Silvis, Ill.
