Bees to bowl for National Championship Saturday
The Bees will bowl for a National Championship Saturday at the Intercollegiate Team Championships in Green Bay, Wis.
St. Ambrose rolled through bracket play Thursday and Friday at the Ashwaubenon Bowling Alley for the right to meet Mount Mercy for the championship Saturday at 5:45 p.m. The men's finals will be taped by CBS Sports Network to be aired Wednesday, May 13, at 7 p.m. The finals will not be streamed by BowlTV.
SAU finished fifth in qualifying after a strong finish. The Bees were seventh after 12 games of qualifying with 2323 pins. They posted a nearly-identical total over the final 12 games of 2324 for a 4647 total, which was enough to climb into fifth. Webber International earned the top seed with 4809 pins. Mount Mercy finished sixth.
Placed in the Red Bracket, St. Ambrose opened match play with a 4-1 win over Marian (Wis.). That was followed by a 4-3 victory over Wichita State to close play Thursday.
Friday, the Bees defeated Southern Nazarene 4-3 before taking a rematch with Marian 4-3 to win the bracket.
Competing for SAU are Keaten Bieri, Tyler Close, Lucas Hersrud, Kevin Magnuson, Elias O'Hollaren, Devin Richards, Kendric Siders and Evan White.
Mount Mercy is also unbeaten in match play, winning the Blue Bracket.
Saturday will be a busy day for the Bees. SAU's Tyler Close will bowl Saturday in the semifinals of the Intercollegiate Singles Championships.
