Narbona named first team all-CCAC; Dacunda on second team
Guillermo Narbona was named first team all-conference and Ignacio Dacunda was named to the second team as the CCAC announced its men's basketball postseason awards.
Narbona became the first Bee named to the CCAC's first team since John Kerr earned the honor following the 2020-21 season.
The 6-7 junior forward from Malaga, Spain, led St. Ambrose in both scoring and rebounding. He averaged 20.1 points and 7.1 rebounds per contest, and put up 20.1 points and 7.7 boards over 20 league games.
Narbona, a member of the 2023-24 CCAC All-Freshman Team, scored in double figures in all but three games this season and topped 20 points 16 times, all while shooting nearly 56 percent from the field. He scored a career-best 35 points in an overtime loss to St. Francis in the CCAC Tournament semifinals last week. Narbona grabbed double-digit rebounds in seven games and posted six double-doubles. He also averaged 3.8 assists and 1.5 steals per game.
Dacunda was second to Narbona on the team in both scoring (17.8 points) and rebounding (7.3 boards) and led the Bees by handing out 4.0 assists per game. He picked up his scoring in conference games, averaging 17.9 points against CCAC opponents.
Dacunda scored in double figures in all but one game this season, that a nine-point effort in an 81-77 win over Oakland City on Nov. 15. He recorded six double-doubles. The 6-4 senior guard from Concordia, Argentina, shot nearly 57 percent from the field. Dacunda earned all-CCAC honorable mention in 2023-24.
The two Bees also each joined the 1000-point club this season with Dacunda scoring his 1000th career point in a 92-78 win over Judson on Jan. 17 and Narbona hitting the milestone just over a month later in an 82-79 win at Holy Cross on Feb. 21. Dacunda finished his four-year SAU career with 1234 points while Narbona will enter his senior season next year already with 1057 career points.
The pair helped St. Ambrose to a 14-16 record and led the team to the CCAC Tournament semifinals for the first time since joining the University joined the conference in 2015-16.
