SAU Cheer gets second place at AMC Championships
Looking for its second straight American Midwest Conference Championship, the SAU Cheer Team came up just a little short.
St. Ambrose, who was in third place after the preliminary round, used a big final round to finish as conference runners-up at the event hosted by Columbia College in the Arena of Southwell Complex in Columbia, Mo., Friday.
SAU's opening-round score of 90.55 trailed both Oklahoma City (93.75) and Dickinson State (91.35). But the Bees regrouped and earned a final-round score of 95.93 to finish with a total of 94.59.
That was enough to pass Dickinson State, who finished third with a final score of 93.41. Oklahoma City held on to win the eight-team conference title with a 95.94.
Competing for St. Ambrose were Teylar Chatman, Ryan Czech, JP Elder, Chloe Fulcher, Graysen Gerlinger, Amira Glenn, Mikal Honeycutt, Sydnee Horstman, Alanna Lang, Jesse Lopez, Taye Owten, Donovan Peck, Reese Puleo, Ryan Russo, Abi Grace Sayavongsa, Haley Scholbrock, Savannah Schumacher, Jaylen Taylor, Brady Teel and RJ Woods. Sydney Hughes, Savanah Metzger and Ethan Trevino were the alternates.
St. Ambrose will now turn its attention to the NAIA Championships, where the Bees will be looking for a Nationals four-peat. The championships will be held at the Stormont Vail Events Center in Topeka, Kan., Mar. 27-28.
