SAU posts record scores at Grand View Viking Challenge

St. Ambrose posted its highest scores at an in-season competition in program history at the Grand View Viking Challenge in Des Moines, Iowa, Sunday.

The SAU Cheer Team won both rounds of the seven-team competition. The Bees earned a score of 94.27 to defeat second-place Grand View (89.12), third-place William Penn (88.38) and fourth-place Midland (86.18).

SAU upped its performance in the second round, earning a program-best score of 97.6. Grand View again took second with a 91.5 and William Penn was third with a 91.3.

SAU Cheer Team members were Teylar Chatman, Ryan Czech, JP Elder, Chloe Fulcher, Graysen Gerlinger, Amira Glenn, Mikal Honeycutt, Sydnee Horstman, Alanna Lang, Jesse Lopez, Taye Owten, Donovan Peck, Reese Puleo, Ryan Russo, Abi Grace Sayavongsa, Haley Scholbrock, Savannah Schumacher, Jaylen Taylor, Brady Teel and RJ WoodsSydney Hughes and Ethan Trevino were the alternates.

The St. Ambrose Dance Team narrowly missed a pair of championships. The Bees took second place in the first round as their score of 97.46 was just short of Grand View's 97.58. The two teams flipped spots in the second round with SAU's program-best score of 98.42 edging Grand View's 98.33.

SAU Dance Team members were Maddy Barnes, Lilly Bonnet, Shea Denahy, Annika Foit, Morgan Ford, Sydnie Offermann, Sara Gundacker, Grace Harms, Karsyn Kuffler, Karli Langley, Brooklyn McBride, Emma Schoonover, Maggie Schreiber and Kyla Shaw. Torrin Heritage, Madelyn Hohe, Hadley Irwin and Evie Miller were the alternates.

The SAU Cheer Team will compete at the Baker Classic Saturday before both St. Ambrose teams will host the Fighting Bee Classic on Mar. 1.
