Stoetzel and Horst Named Athletes of the Month; Men’s Soccer Team Named Team of the Month
Jacob Stoetzel (men's golf) and Jenna Horst (women's soccer) were selected by the St. Ambrose Sports Information staff as the September Fighting Bees Athletes of the Month.
The Fighting Bees men's soccer team was named September's Team of the Month after posting a strong 5-3 record.
Stoetzel, a junior on the men's golf team, played a pivotal role in the Bees' fall season success. He participated in four tournaments for the Bees, averaging a 73.38 score over eight rounds. On September 15th, Stoetzel placed first in the Duhawk Fall Invitational while helping the team to a first-place finish as well. Two weeks later, he finished fifth at the Clarke Fall Classic, which earned him a spot on the all-tournament team. Stoetzel was named CCAC Men's Golfer of the Week on Sept. 24 and Sept. 30.
Horst, a senior forward, powered the women's soccer attack in September. In seven matches, she scored three goals and added three assists for a total of nine points. Her most dominant performance came in a 9-0 win over Mount Mary on Sept. 23, when she tallied two goals and two assists. Horst also scored the decisive goal and recorded an assist in the Bees' 2-1 conference victory at St. Francis on Sept. 27. Horst was named CCAC Offensive Player of the Week on Sept. 30.
The men's soccer team earned Team of the Month honors behind a 5-3 September run. The Bees outscored opponents 19-18 during the month, demonstrating a balanced attack and resilience in close contests. Key wins included a dominant home performance against Dordt and a gritty 2-0 road victory at St. Francis. With a 4-1 home record in September, the Bees' consistent play established them as a strong contender heading into the heart of conference play. Josh Simon led the team with four goals, three of which came from successful penalty kicks. Dawson Yegge held it down in the net, collecting 33 saves in 675 minutes of play.
Each month, the St. Ambrose Sports Information Department selects a Male and Female Athlete of the Month based on their exceptional accomplishments. A Team of the Month is also chosen to recognize collective achievement across all Fighting Bees programs.
